In the current economic situation working at home doesn’t seem to be something that anyone would turn their hand to for extra money. This is not groundless, the object of people’s worries manifesting itself in more than the uncertainty of a regular salary or the shame attached with being a “lay about”. There are numerous reasons why taking the step towards being able to Work From Home is worrying and many people feel that these worries are greater than the rewards that may come from being able to Work From Home. This is why people don’t choose to start home businesses and don’t feel they have the “know how” to even consider finding a market and creating a business for their ideas. This however has not stopped already set up internet businesses from flourishing and keeping their regular customers loyal. So when did the detriments to starting a home business start to overshadow the merits? I think it was when the country went into recession. Or rather the moment the country accepted it was in a recession.
Up until Britain had realised it was in a recession the benefits to working at home had still seemed to be more important for people to think of than the detriments. This is why the Internet Business flourished and why new internet businesses were still setting up regularly. In the current economic climate the Internet Business has suffered considerable, causing not only a drop in the number of people buying from them but also causing a drop in the number of people wanting set up internet or home businesses. This could be due to the fact that buying online is often seen as a less reliable way of buying products due to elements out of the buyers control i.e. items getting mislaid or damaged in the post, unreliable sellers not dispatching products or products being in some way different to their information or image. This does not sound good for the internet market and whilst the internet market has not completely “collapsed” it has still felt the repercussions of the downturn and the current economic situation.
The downturn in the economic situationclimate has not, however, massively affected the Online Jobs market. This is because there are still people out therewanting to begin and run internet businesses and whilst this number has reduced, people who are still setting up such businesses are more willing to take on somebody to help run the business, hopefully to help eradicate the loss of customers and cash flow into the business. This means that at this time online jobs are a vital area of the internet business and whilst internet businesses might not be thriving online jobs are possibly a more credible option to starting an internet business, and might even offer the same experience or similar experience useful when starting of an internet business occurs (if it ever does).
To finish, can an internet business be viable and profitable in the current economic climate? In short, I don’t think so. Internet firms rely on the loyalty of customers and the knowledge that customers are going to be using the business on a frequent basis, giving the owner with a solid and stable income. In the current economic climate this does not happen, customers are more likely to use more “safe” methods of purchasing products. This is not to say, however, that the economic downturn has affected the internet business so much so that it has, or will, collapse.
